Dr. Roy Smythe has been a successful clinician, funded biomedical investigator, medical school and health system executive, writer and entrepreneur. Currently he is global Chief Medical Officer for Healthcare Informatics for Philips, and consultant to a number of growth stage healthcare companies. Prior, he was Chief Medical Officer for Chicago-based Valence Health and for Avia, LLC., as well as Founder of HX360. Before moving to the private sector, Dr. Smythe was Senior Vice President for Institute Development, and Medical Director of Innovation for the Scott & White Healthcare system in Texas. He was also tenured Professor of Surgery, Medicine and Molecular Medicine, Roney Endowed Chair, and Chairman of Surgery for the Texas A&M University College of Medicine and Scott & White. After training at the University of Pennsylvania, his clinical career began at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Center, where he led a clinical solid tumor program and a molecular therapeutics laboratory research group.
He is considered an expert in leveraging technology to change healthcare delivery and writes and speaks frequently on these topics. He has published more than 300 manuscripts, articles and essays in scientific and academic journals as well as writing for Forbes, DISCOVER and the LinkedIn Healthcare Channel.
