James (Jim) A. Rogers III, J.D., serves as Chair of Mayo Clinic’s newly formed Department of Business Development. This Department was formed by merging Mayo Clinic Ventures and the Office of Business Development. Jim is the immediate past Chair of Mayo Clinic Ventures and past Deputy Director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine.
The Department is focused on proactive partnering with industry to fill capability gaps and enhance Mayo’s practice. The Department is responsible for Mayo Clinic’s full spectrum of business development activities, from start-ups and licensing, partnering, venture investing (in partnership with Treasury Services) and acquisitions.
Mr. Rogers serves on the Mayo Clinic Administrative Team, Management Team and the investment committee of Mayo’s $100 million Venture and Growth Fund.
Mr. Rogers also serves on several external boards including: Medical Alley Association, Rochester Area Economic Development, Lourdes Foundation, Resoundant, Inc., and the Merchants Bank Local Advisory.
Mr. Rogers is a licensed patent attorney and has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property and commercialization of technologies, including serving for more than a decade in the Legal Department at Mayo Clinic.
Before coming to Mayo Clinic, Mr. Rogers worked at Dorsey & Whitney, LLP, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and 3M Company, where he was responsible for serving multiple internal clients.
Mr. Rogers is a graduate of the University of Iowa and University of Iowa College of Law, where he earned his B.S. in biology and his J.D. with high distinction.
